It´s the largest event directed to key stakeholders and organizations that provides youth, student, and educational travel. Booking process:
- Today’s travelers are relying more than ever on word of mouth: 40% of online travelers visit social networking sites to influence destination selection and 70% of consumers trust online recommendations while only 14% trust advertisements
- 92% of consumers around the world say they trust earned media, such as digital word-of-mouth and recommendations from friends and family, above all other forms of advertising – it´s an increase of 18% since 2007
- A negative review would only definitely stop 11% of people from booking a hotel in which they are interested; a further 82% of people would investigate further and may still book.
- A survey asking British consumers to list the ‘Top 50 things we don’t do any more’ showed ‘Going into the travel agents to research a holiday’ as No.2.

Social Media:
- Social media is not just being used in the planning phase of the holiday, with 41% of travellers saying that they now use apps to help them to choose restaurants, bars and beaches during their trip.
- Recommendations from ‘virtual strangers’ are growing increasingly influential.
- Technology, such as blogs, give boutique players in the travel publishing field the ability compete against the big corporations.
- Social media sites such as TripAdvisor and Facebook have increased their importance to holidaymakers when deciding where to go over the past 12 months (World Travel Market 2011 Industry Report).
- The most important use of social media may be after a holiday, when photos, comments and feedback appear on blogs and sites such as TripAdvisor, creating users as “free” brand ambassadors, which obviously is the best.
- Travel and tourism chat rooms and forums attracted 28% of the social media users, compared with blogs which accounted for 9%.
- 53% of reviews are written by women… and women give a 10% higher rating than men when they do write a review.

Online usage:
- 2/3rds of businesses now use search engines to book their travels and there has been a significant increase in smart phone bookings.
- By 2015, 9 out of 10 consumers will have a mobile subscription: 29% of travelers have used mobile apps to find flight deals, 30% have used mobile apps to find hotel deals and 15% have downloaded mobile apps specific to upcoming vacations.
- In US 70% of consumers trust online recommendations while only 14% trust advertisements, 50% of blog readers read travel blogs and 57% of travel-related website visitors read traveler-written reviews
- Over a third (36%) of UK adults now prefer to book holidays online or by email, making it now as popular as booking in person.
This information show just how influential technology and media are in any sector, particularly in travel. Using social media, such as Twitter, Facebook and feedback forums or blogs can largely influence peoples´ perceptions and help them make their decision, which destination they chose.
